Chapel of Saint Joseph
Its construction dates from 1727, the year the chapel was founded by Pedro Teixido de Turnes and his wife Catalina Pérez de Reloba, as indicated by the inscriptions on either side of the façade. It features a shield formed by a single quartering, with a cross in the centre at full height; to the right a sword and to the left a palm, and above all, a crown of nobility.
These arms constituted the attributes of the Tribunal of the Inquisition, used by those who held positions within it, such as Inquisitor, commissioner, familiar, etc. of the Holy Office — which apparently was the husband of the daughter of the chapel's founders.
Opposite the chapel stands the cruceiro (wayside cross) dating from the same period. It is of modest height, the column is octagonal and rests upon a small plinth, which in turn stands on four rows of concentric square steps. The cross, bevel-shaped like a flower, rests on a small capital, and above it the figure of the Crucified Christ.
In the 1940s, a school was built on this site, with the chapel attached to it; today it is the Municipal Music School and remains an annex to the chapel, connected directly by an interior door.
