Plaza del Mercado

Formerly known as the Plaza Mayor, it is presided over by the Municipal Market — a monumental rectangular building set between narrow streets and spanning several levels to accommodate the unevenness of the terrain. The market is distributed across four floors. Access from the main façade is directly to the ground floor, or to the first floor via a double-flight staircase with stone balustrade, topped with balls. The oval shield above the cornice breaks its line.

This building was designed by the Santiago architect José María Bonet Correa and was inaugurated on 1 July 1955.
